Street Dance | |
| Age: 5yrs+ | Group size: 10-30 | Street dance is a fusion of different styles that has been developed on the streets of the USA. Hip Hop culture is a strong influence, with styles such as Lockin' and Poppin', Jerking and Krumping all being components taught. Junior Jam can teach the technical elements of these styles along with commercial choreography and routines. |
Break Dance | |
| Age: 7yrs+ | Group size: 10-30 | Break Dance originates from New York and is a type of street dance and part of hip hop culture. Break dance has a greater emphasis on techniques and less on choreographed routines and is more acrobatic in its nature. When we deliver our sessions we choose techniques that are safe for the young people. Students can expect to work on techniques like Toprock, Downrock and Freeze. |
Capoeira | |
| Age: 5yrs+ | Group size: 10-30 | Capoeira is both a martial art and form of dance; it originates from Angolia, Western Africa. Its history lies in self-defence, however when the Angolia people were enslaved and transported to the coffee plantations of Brazil the slave masters would not allow them to practice martial arts techniques so they cleverly turned it into a dance to keep the tradition alive. Capoeira is a mix of dance, martial arts and acrobatics which students enjoy performing. |
Drama | |
| Age: 5yrs+ | Group size: 10-30 |
Junior Jam are able to offer students the chance to take part in creative and interactive workshops whilst developing their acting skills. Pupils will begin with a selection of fun games to increase energy levels and confidence within the group, before moving onto shorter tasks which involve improvisation and active learning. Drama helps to build self-esteem and confidence. Many students benefit from these sessions as they can apply and adapt real life situations to class theory. Role play enhances speaking and listening skills which, in turn, complement and improve curricular work. Our drama sessions can be used to explore issues, create performances or as material for a podcast or short film or clip. Students make measurable improvements and schools find verbal communication is also enhanced. |
