Junior Jam enable children to make sense of their own individuality by exploring meaningful fictitious situations that have equivalents in the real world, and this is utilised in schools through structured music, dance, and drama to encourage pupils to learn actively and interactively throughout the primary years. The Arts give children opportunities to explore, discuss and deal with difficult issues and to express their emotions in a supportive environment. It encourages them to think and act creatively, thus developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that can be applied in all areas of learning.

VOCALS & SINGING
Our singing courses offer expertise in every aspect of singing, from breathing exercises and warming up correctly to an array of songs for students to practise and perform. The course is a great way to build confidence and learn a new form of expression. Depending on their Key Stage, the children will learn songs that are age appropriate to work on breathing, posture, projection, articulation and improve confidence.
The iJam lessons combine computing skills with music theory and composition in an exciting and hands-on fashion using iPads. Amongst other things, children will be taught about instrumentation and song structure, rhythm and tempo, pitch and dynamics, genre and music from different cultures, audio recording and sound editing. The iJam course will improve students' general knowledge and appreciation of popular and world music. Each level gives schools the option of steady progression.
Key Stage 1
My First Song
This is an introduction to basic song writing skills using the apps Star Composer and GarageBand. Students will work initially as a class, creating a class song before moving into pairs or small groups to create a short composition using a variety of instruments and sounds available within the apps.
My First Band
Students will learn about a selection of different styles of popular music from the past 60 years and be tasked with creating their own versions using the app GarageBand. Children will learn how to recognise different instruments and sounds associated with different genres.
Key Stage 2
This is an introduction to basic music production skills using the app GarageBand. Students will work in pairs or small groups to create a short composition using a variety of instruments and sounds available in the app. Tempo will be addressed, both in relation to musical genre and how it affects the feel and impact of a song. Musical and rhythmical patterns will be developed and students will appraise each other's work with a view to implementing changes and improving their compositions.
Participants will begin by listening to a variety of popular dance music styles and analysing key elements that distinguish one genre from another. These findings will then be applied when students create a short composition in their chosen genre. Elements such as dynamics and pitch will be explored and applied to the compositions. The concept of the 'Audio Spectrum' will be introduced and participants will begin to use stereo-panning and level controls to improve their music's balance and texture.
This level focuses on the origin and progression of hip hop as a musical movement. Students will study the basic elements of the genre and develop their sampling and audio editing skills to create their own original hip hop track. As well as using GarageBand, other apps will be introduced so participants can add their own drum rhythms, loops and sampled sounds to their compositions. Students will progress to creating lyrics to rap, and speak or sing them accompanying their tracks.
The iMusic Theory levels are an engaging way to teach your Music curriculum. Using iPads to aid the lesson, students will work through keyboard skills, scales, notes, chords and notation in a fun and engaging way. As students progress, they will improve coordination, rhythm, dexterity and ability to recognise different tones within an array of musical genres.
Key Stage 2
This is an introduction to reading and playing music. Students will learn basic keyboard skills to help understand how to play notes and chords. By working through a number of exercises looking at notation, timing and rhythm, students will learn how to read music in the treble clef and perform a song to the class.
iMusic Theory Level 2 will progress each student's understanding further by teaching about different types of music dating back to the Baroque era. Each learning session will be a journey, applying knowledge learnt in Level 1 to perform songs, while developing understanding of not only reading music but the understanding of key, pitch and timbre as new instruments get introduced.
iMusic Theory Level 3 will combine elements covered in Levels 1 and 2, however it will require students to create their own melodies. To complete this level, students will need to listen and use their knowledge to compose their own song and present it in notation form, in addition to performing it to the class.
Junior Jam are able to offer students the chance to take part in creative and interactive workshops while developing their acting skills. Pupils will begin with a selection of fun games to increase energy levels and confidence within the group, before moving onto shorter tasks which involve improvisation and active learning. Drama helps to build self-esteem and confidence. Many students benefit from these sessions as they can apply and adapt real-life situations to class theory. Role play enhances speaking and listening skills which, in turn, complement and improve curricular work.
Our musical theatre course has students creating a musical production where they will sing, dance and act, promoting confidence and imagination through a performance-based project. The students will follow a musical script throughout the lessons, which will include singing, dancing and acting.
Our Samba drumming course is designed to introduce young people to the music of an exciting and different culture. The sessions teach participants a little bit of the history of Brazilian culture, Samba music, what instruments are used and how to play the basic hits and rhythms. The courses are hands-on with all participants having the opportunity to play the drums, both as part of the group and in a solo capacity.
Our African drumming courses are designed to introduce young people to the music of a different culture. The sessions teach participants a little bit of history of the Djembe, how the drums are made, information about the countries themselves and how to play the basic hits and rhythms.
