Samba in a Fiat

Hello everyone. My name is Michael, the music manager here at Junior Jam. I have the delightful job of overseeing all of the different musical instruments and equipment that we use throughout the year.

At any given time, we have roughly forty to fifty music instructors teaching right across the country. This means forty to fifty different sets of instruments, all of which need to be in tip top condition when the new academic year starts. Therein lies the challenge of a Junior Jam summer.

I've written a short poem which summarises what a Junior Jam summer is like here at our head office in Bradford.

Samba in a Fiat

The end of August has finally arrived

Some rain, some cloud but mostly shine.

Weeks of preparation,

Packing, picking, stacking and sticking

Have all led to this occasion.

Each day encapsulated a flurry of instruments

And we became progressively pernickety at irregular increments.

That label’s wonky, the lid needs some glue,

Glockenspiels are chiming and the ukuleles are in tune.

As the month comes to a close and our standards are met

Our staff begin to congregate for their equipment to collect.

Some come by bus, others simply on foot,

But for one staff member

It was Samba in a Fiat.
