Our first few holiday clubs have kicked off this week in Bradford. It has been a hectic few weeks of organising and planning but we are now excited to get stuck in and put on some great clubs for the kids.

The holiday clubs are supported by funding from the Department Of Education that has been given to Bradford and Kirklees Council, Junior Jam have been able to utilise this funding throughout the holiday club in aim to help tackle Holiday Hunger.

I had my first holiday club experience this week. I was at a school in Bradford (St Oswalds CofE Primary Academy) and I loved it, especially as I am office based, so being able to be at the schools overseeing the club, acting as a support staff, was great. My role was to ensure all kids who were booked on to the club are registered and taken to the correct place safely. I was also on hand for any toilet trips, water bottle refills, first aid accidents and lunch time cover. Sports and iMedia sessions were running, so it was fun to get stuck in with the kids and join in with those activities which were running. The clubs run from 10am-3pm providing the exciting activities. As well as this, Junior Jam will provide all children with a range of healthy and balanced free school lunches throughout the duration of the holiday club. Each club has had a massive success with up to 30-35 pupils booked on as well as waiting lists.

Next week I am based at a school in Sheffield being a holiday club support staff, and I must admit I am excited to meet the kids and also the other Junior Jam staff that I usually only deal with over the phone.

The majority of our Summer holiday clubs are priority for free school meal pupils and vulnerable pupils, so it is lovely seeing the children having a fun time doing activities over summer that they wouldn’t usually get the chance to do.

Roll on the next 6 weeks of clubs!

Have a great summer
